YouTube
Oh.. is there a new BB Ki Vines video, or the new Justice League trailer, or maybe previous night football match highlights ? All of this, only at one place known as YouTube. It has been 11 years since a website named YouTube.com is a sensation among all of us. An average person checks a YouTube video on a daily basis (more than one in my case). YouTube has always served as a major utility over the internet. From cooking to farming, drama to comedy, music to dance and many more fields are there which are highly benefited by the YouTube website.
It was in early 2005 that Jawed Karim, Chad Hurley and Steven Chen,( all three studying computer science at Un The site was officially launched on 15 December, 2005 but before that as well the site was getting an astonishing rate of 8 million views a day. Earlier, YouTube used PHP, but now they have shifted to Python. Also their video player doesn't need any Adobe Flash Player as it runs on Adobe Dynamic Streaming for Flash.
I was browsing through Quora so as to know what are the basics to develop a technology such as YouTube. What I came across was surprising, the answer quoted "You don't need to worry about the programming language as you can use Java, PHP or Python". I thought why isn't the programming language an issue. But then I realised that there are much bigger issues including the biggest one that is to make one video available to over one lakh users at the same time. Well, YouTube has been successful in handling the traffic and its growing fast over the years. YouTube uses C/C++ as well. C++ is used in many offline applications and utilities on your PC. In fact, most of the things that you use may be programmed in C++ language. Whereas Java is more of a graphic oriented language as it provides a more stylish side to the website. We at CPD provide the best of teachers to teach Java and C/C++ in order to promote more start-ups as today's world is more inclined towards the entrepreneurship sector. You could also be one of the founder of some major site such as YouTube one day.
YouTube is a very handy tech. If it is used correctly and in a perfect direction, it can prove to be extremely useful. But, if it is used in a negative sense then it will lead to dire consequences. YouTube has brought about a huge change in the leaning and knowledge section. Many experts upload lectures on YouTube of their respective subjects which helps the students to learn a topic in their desired pace. Also many people get an awesome platform to showcase their talent. But, YouTube has demerits including the copyright issues. Many upload copied contents from other channels and post them under their name. Other issues include the presence of violent contents on YouTube which make parental lock a necessity. Keeping all the things aside, YouTube has achieved a big feat after it introduced the offline utility this year. Now, people have access to YouTube video even in areas where internet connections are hard to find and yeah it has also overcome the problem of "buffering".
I must mention some facts about YouTube. Google bought YouTube for a monstrous amount of $1.86 billion just an year after it was launched in 2005. The first ever video on YouTube was "Me At The Zoo" which featured Jawed Karim. Also the first video on YouTube to hit the $1 Billion views mark was PSY's Gangnam Style which you must have danced to at least once. The best part is the one where I knew that YouTube could also play pranks on the April Fool's Day. Yeah, that's true, YouTube turned its screen upside down on one such occasion in order to prank the users. So, I conclude this blog with these facts… I hope you liked reading it.
